what is cyberpunk survival guide?

My name is Greg Fish and I'm a professional nerd by day and writer by night who was always fascinated by the outer limits of science and technology. Speculative ideas of the future and sci-fi novels beckoned me to learn more, to keep digging, keep exploring, and keep searching. This is why became an engineer. I wanted to build the future, or at least a small part of it. I still do.

And since late 2008, I've been inviting people to join me on that little adventure, not to cheerlead, not to be a prophet of doom, not to provide a definitive answer, but to push limits, reconsider the very premise of big, thorny, complex questions, and imagine new possibilities. Not to agree with me, not to stir the pot or start a fight, but to think along and discover with me.

I've written for publications like Seeker, i09, HowStuffWorks, and BusinessWeek, talking about the future of technology, space exploration, and the messy sides of science and engineering that push boundaries. My work has been cited in SEED, Le Monde, Forbes, Bad Astronomy, and numerous popular science blogs. I've also had a weekly radio segment across Canada since 2018 and done my share of radio and podcast debates about AI and transhumanism.

Today, we live in a world where technology is becoming increasingly complicated, science can do things straight out of science fiction, and yet society seems to be in near constant turmoil as old traditions keep clashing with an emerging new order that doesn’t know what it’s trying to become, searching for something to embrace. A world where inventions and innovations aren’t created for the benefit of society, but to be used on it. A cyberpunk dystopia.

But we saw this future coming. We know it can always change. And the first step to changing it is learning to think a little differently, to question and think more, and to scroll and ragebait less. To be able to both have a spirited debate, and to just sit in pure awe at the strangeness and beauty of the universe. And to confront magical thinking and the status quo when they stand in the way of the future.

Cyberpunk Survival Guide is a sum total of my attempts to do exactly that across multiple iterations and reboots, all brought under one banner and with renewed focus on topics more relevant now than ever: transhumanism, AI, space, and our increasingly tech-influenced culture. Because believe it or not, everything you will find here is connected, even if I didn't know it when I was writing it.

I'm not going to sell you coaching, or courses. I don't have an agent, a PR firm, or a brand deal. Instead, I want to offer you a space to think and explore with me, and where we can be honest when the proverbial emperor is, in fact, treating the world like his nudist colony and demands we compliment his imaginary robes made of weapons grade pretendium.
